Concluding Remarks

The design stage of any software system is generally accepted by software engineers, to occupy in excess of 60% of the total software development time. As such we believe we have made a solid start for the first year of this project. We have carefully idenitified the needs of the user population, and designed an innovative interface for a system that exceeds previous definitions of a database, and we have built a prototype for neurobiologists to begin gathering data.

It is clear that the next step involves building a prototype of the interface and formalizing the base frames in the data model to represent both the data in the database, and the visible representations of this data. BrainView will continue to be developed and will offer real-world benefits to neurobiologists while the larger database is still being designed and constructed.
