This tutorial will consider the advantages and difficulties involved in developing large scale network simulations as compared to single neuron simulations. The discussion will be based on a model of olfactory (piriform) cerebral cortex incorporating considerable realism at all levels: synaptic, neuronal, and network. This model is a second generation of the model by Matt Wilson that served as the original basis for the GENESIS simulator. It is arguably one of the most complex network simulations constructed to date in GENESIS.
